“What are you doing here?” he hisses, pulling me close. His lips tickle my ear. His hand on my waist slips low and his fingers dig into my skin just a little.

The breath catches in my chest and every nerve ending in my body goes crazy. The music surges, and this night suddenly feels too big for me to breathe.

“I’m not lying down and taking a fate I didn’t ask for,” I manage. My fingers cling hard to Ian’s shoulder. I can feel the muscles beneath his clothes tense and tighten. And suddenly, I’m back to the days at his cabin, when he’d come walking out of the shower with only a towel and I pretended not to look. I know what his bare skin looks like, and I’m craving another glimpse.

“They won’t care about a show of good faith,” he says. “Do you have any idea what this party is even for?”

My silence is his answer.

“They throw this party once a year and offer massive amounts of alcohol so that people won’t remember the blackouts that come from being fed on.”

My eyes dart to that door at the back of the room. The blood on the woman’s shoulder. The blood in the corner of the man’s mouth.

“They’re feeding on the party attendees,” I say.

Ian nods. His scratchy cheek brushes mine. “The bite numbs and makes you forget, but people tend to realize they blacked out. A party like this with this much booze, you brush it off. It’s the one time a year they feed freely upon the townspeople. It’s the only way to keep people from asking too many questions.”

It’s terrifying and horrifying, and I’m suddenly wondering if the man was asking me to dance as my turn to be fed upon.

“It’s bad, but I have to do something, Ian,” I breathe.

“Walking into the fire isn’t the way to do it,” he whispers into my ear.

Summary

If you loved BRANDED, you won’t want to miss HOUSE OF ROYALS, Keary Taylor’s newest dark, romantic read.

Every town has its history and skeletons, but Silent Bend, Mississippi’s are darker than most. Ruled from the shadows by the House—the immortal Born and their aging, enslaved Bitten—everyone knows not to go out after dark and that the police will never look into crimes involving blood.

Alivia Ryan didn’t know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes.

Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met, and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives—Ian is a sworn enemy of the House.

In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented King and the legend of his resurrecting Queen hang over everyone’s heads, and proving loyalty means far more than blood. You’d better watch who you trust in this town…

Intimate Betrayal Excerpt
"Hey, just the man I want to see." Sori sliced his hand through the air toward the beautiful redhead beside him. "Kindise this is Jaden Valenti."
He mentally retrieved his chin from the floor as Sori turned toward him, finishing introductions he needn't finish.
"Jaden meet Kindise Wyatt." He twisted back to the woman and made a dramatic bow at the waist, concluding. "Welcome to our home."
Her genuine smile caused a familiar tickle deep in Jaden's chest. Seeing her expression up close revealed she was more enchanting than any thirty-foot surveillance could show. Nursing the pain of a bullet graze on his left side, he took his time standing but opted out of walking over to shake her hand. Not because his wound prevented him from moving, but because he knew if he got too close, the temptation to kiss her delectable mouth would be overpowering. How many times had he fantasized about her full lips, their warmth, their softness, and their sweet taste? He dreamed of her too many times to count, and now here she stood.
"Jaden?" Sori's verbal prodding drew him back to the moment.
"Huh? Oh. I'm sorry." He shook his amorous thoughts about the silkiness of her hair free and bowed his head. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kindise."
"It's kind of you both to allow me to stay here."
Her glimpse was too fleeting. It barely landed on him before shooting back to Sori. It was the first time he heard her voice; it was as sexy as hell's temptation and as seductive as the woman herself. If he could only reach out to caress her cheek, while enjoying the depth of those amazing eyes. The deep color was breathtaking, nearly paralyzing him where he stood when she looked back at him. Wait! What did she say? She's staying here? He straightened just a little taller.
A soft chuckle escaped her, capturing his heart as the sight of her had so long ago. Her thick lashes danced between him and Sori as she spoke. "I promise my intrusion on your privacy won't be long."
His pulse pounded through his body. Light dew dampened his palms. Rapid puffs of air exited his lungs on silent billows. This was fate playing out her hand, and rewarding him for the sacrifice he'd made to keep Kindise alive. Fate brought her back to him.
Her deep mellow tone stirred something buried inside him as she said, "as soon as I find--"
"That's what we wanted to talk to you about." Sori placed the basket he held on the floor near the kitchen, before taking Kindise's arm, guiding her toward the sofa where Jaden had been resting.
Holy Christ, I can't sit next to her. The gentle-sweet smell of her perfume
accosted him as he stepped out of the way and headed for the kitchen. Glancing back, he saw Sori turn with raised hands that spoke his silent question. He answered as if he'd been verbally asked. "I'm going to get our guest something to drink."
"I've seen to her needs."
Jealousy tainted his thoughts. Yeah, well you better not have seen to all of them, my Fae friend.
"Come sit down, we need to talk to you."

Summary

Kindise Wyatt escapes her Star Rider captor and returns to Earth. With the help of a sexy Old World Mole and his mysterious friend, she's determined to uncover the whereabouts of her lover. Instead, she finds nothing but betrayal and her captor in pursuit.

On the lam after betraying his evil ruler, ex-Dirt Dweller and drifter Jaden Valenti confirms his name is on a hit list. Finding what he believes will be safety amongst the Airbornes, he recreates himself and hides his past until trouble walks back into his life in
the name of Kindise Wyatt, the woman he was ordered to assassinate and didn't.

Due to the obsessions of a Fae woman Sori gave up his hard-earned royal title and left his homeland of Elfame. Love is the furthest thing from his mind until he is sent in Jaden's place to pick-up some cargo...human cargo in the form Kindise Wyatt. He feels the Fae magnetism of his soulmate in her. Problem is; she's in love with someone else.

Will Jaden fulfill his orders to kill Kindise and get his name removed from the list, or will his secret be exposed and betray the friendship he has with Sori? Does Sori help Kindise find her lover, or will a love between them have a chance to flourish before a fatal
attraction and a determined captor rip their love asunder? Will Kindise find true love or will betrayals at every turn crush the fight out of her? Can she find her inner strengths to keep fighting and lead The Freedom Fighters to defeat the Dirt Dweller elites, once and for all?

Impossible End by Sybil Bartel

Impossible End by Sybil Bartel
(The Unchecked Series #3)
Publication Date: December 8th 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Available From: Amazon

Excerpt

I put my mouth against her throat and whispered, “Do you know what you feel like?”

“No,” she rasped.

“Like everything I’ve ever wanted.”

Her body stilled, her eyes opened and I released my tight grip in her hair as she brought her head up.

“Blaze,” she breathed, staring into my soul.

“Everything,” I repeated.

Her hand landed on my heart. “I love you.”

“I know.” Every part of her body changed when she looked at me. Her shoulders lifted, her back went straight, her eyes turned to liquid heat and her pulse raced. I knew how she felt about me.

She pushed her fingers into my hair. “I’ll still always tell you.”

“I know.” She needed the words. I didn’t. I didn’t throw out words when I had actions.

Her forehead creased and her hands stilled. “What if I never told you again?”

“It would change nothing.”

She turned her head and dropped her arms.

I grabbed her chin and brought her back to me. I’d been waiting for this to come up. I never told her I loved her in response to her telling me. It cheapened it. “But I would miss it,” I said honestly.

“Would you?” It wasn’t a question. It was an accusation.

“Yes.”

“I miss it.”

“How many other women have I come inside?” I asked calmly.

The color drained from her face.

“How many?” I demanded.

She swallowed.

“You know this,” I reminded her. “Answer me.”

“None,” she whispered.

I dropped my Marine face. “You don’t need the words,” I slowly annunciated, letting her see the man I was, not the warrior I’d been trained to be.

Her eyes welled with unshed tears.

Then I gave her the fierce truth that meant more to me than any three words. “I would die for you.”

Summary

Blaze

I stood by my brothers in the Marines and fought for my country. I gave my blood, sweat and flesh so that others could have a taste of freedom.

But my wife wasn’t free.

She’d been hunted, stalked, and forced to keep a secret no one should have to live with. I’d made her a promise. Her freedom, my rules, no questions asked. I thought I’d kept my promise but I made a mistake—a rookie mistake.

Now I was going to finish what I started. I was done playing games with the killer who’d murdered my wife’s parents and tracked her for sport. If he thought he was safe in a jail cell, he was wrong. No one puts out a hit on my wife and survives.

This ends now. I protect what’s mine…at whatever cost.

IMPOSSIBLE END is the conclusion to the Unchecked Series. This novella is from Blaze’s point of view and is not a stand alone. To get the full story, please read the first two books in the series, IMPOSSIBLE PROMISE and IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE.

The Torment of Rachel Ames by Jeff Gunhus

The Torment of Rachel Ames by Jeff Gunhus
Genre: Thriller / Horror
Available From: Amazon

Excerpt

Rachel Ames knows she’s making a terrible mistake, but that’s never stopped her before. Even as she speeds down the empty highway, she’s certain nothing good will come of this trip. She can’t say why she has this belief, only that it’s deeply rooted, part of a visceral animal instinct clawing away at her insides. Call it intuition. Or call it common sense, doesn’t matter. Can’t change the fact that it’s the truth.

She refuses to change her destination, even if the rising sense of dread causes her heart to beat right out of her chest. She’s committed, this much is a fact, so she pushes aside all thought of turning around and focuses on the road ahead.

She checks the map on her phone, taking comfort in the little blue dot on the screen that symbolizes the exact spot in the world occupied by her aging Honda Accord with faded red paint, bad muffler and squeaking brakes. The dot sails along a straight white line surrounded by an ocean of green. She appreciates the simplicity of the image, the perfection of it. An object moving at a steady rate along a direct path toward a specific destination. No hurdles. No obstacles to navigate. Not even an intersection or a fork in the road. There are only two decisions to make. To continue forward or stop the car and go back.

And there’s no chance in hell she’s going back.

Her two gentlemen passengers are the perfect companions. Silent, good-looking and only there to cater to her whims and needs. They sit together in the seat next to her, sharing the seatbelt. That might have been overdoing it, but strapping them in together makes her laugh, so she forgives herself the indulgence. This is her journey, her time, so acting odd is her prerogative.

Besides, the two of them are the perfect complements. Daniels and Underwood. Booze and typewriter. Soul mates bound by common history and mutual reliance.

The Underwood typewriter was a great find her sophomore year in college, given to her by Professor McNeely’s widow soon after his very public death from a massive aneurism. It’d happened right in the middle of her creative writing class, just as the old bastard was finally saying something nice about her novel-in-progress. Mid-sentence, he’d slapped a hand to his head, made a small grunt and rolled his eyes back in their sockets. At first, she’d thought he was mocking her work, but then his back arched and he collapsed to the floor. After that came the convulsions, followed by the shit and urine filling his pants as her classmates screamed. Then, as the good book says, the lights went out and Elvis left the building.

But unlike Elvis, the man wasn’t much loved. A taskmaster who hated any writer beside himself, he used critiques as an assault rifle to mow down any young soul with the temerity to attempt the art that, in his mind, belonged only to him and a handful of his peers. Sure there were the appropriate candlelight vigils and the church service to honor the brave soul who died fighting the good fight in his ivory tower, but right under the surface, the humor rolled dark and furious.

I heard that the last pages he read really blew his mind.

You know that saying, would it kill you to say something nice?

Rachel guessed it had.

Summary

Suffering from writer's block, novelist Rachel Ames escapes to a lake cabin to calm her mind and regain a sense of herself. The location is perfect. Isolated. Beautiful. Inspiring. It even comes with a good-looking landlord who shows an interest in her. But she can't shake the sense that something terrible has followed her to the lake, something just beyond her consciousness, something out on the edge where the sounds of a raging fire and sirens linger whenever she slows down to listen. Determined to make the cabin work, she tries to settle in and give her new life a chance. But when strange things begin to happen around her, she wonders if she's made a terrible mistake. As the darkness that's followed her manifests itself in inexplicable ways, her concept of reality is stretched thin and she realizes nothing at the lake is what it seems. As she fights to survive with her sanity intact, she understands too late that the location she's chosen for herself is far from perfect.
